Simplicity and Speed in Implementation Improves Profitability

I had a remarkable experience recently! I was having a chat with Samay Joseph. He has a small electrical projects business but works with big names in the Government and Private sectors.

Samay was struggling hard to manage some 15 or 16 odd projects his company was handling. He had a project cum operations guy who managed everything through site supervisors. No systematic reporting from sites was possible. Expenses could not be tracked or contained well either. Site supervisors exhausted their advances and spent from pockets at times to maintain timelines. Accounts guy couldn't release funds in time to sites as he didn't have verifiable evidences. Work got delayed and profitability suffered as Samay had little basis for making reasonable decisions! The more Samay got involved in solving chaos the less time he had for the bigger picture! He was stuck!

I had advised Samay to adopt a framework to standardize the processes and then focus on improving performance. I  introduced a business tracking software platform (Karma Axis) to standardize the tracking and management of the key actions (Karmas) that mattered for his business. 

Karma Axis allowed the site supervisors to capture the relevant inputs about what they did, what they required and what they wanted to record using only their smartphones. They could do it on the go and at the time of the incidence too. All the captured data / images were compiled in report forms and were available to all concerned automatically - so no separate reports needed to be compiled. In hardly 8 months of using this platform I could see a new level of exuberance in the organisation. The coordination between the execution teams in the sites and the support functions like Logistics, Accounts and Purchase improved dramatically. Samay's faith in his teams' capabilities improved and he started feeling confident about meeting delivery timelines.

I was curious to understand the reasons of this fantastic turnaround with Karma Axis platform. Samay summed it up by saying that the simplicity of use and fast implementation helped him the most as he could regain proper control of execution in a short time thus turning around business performance. Samay hoped to make some profits now. 

It suddenly dawned on me how Samay could have been affected if the system took longer than it actually took them! The business performance surely would have been several times worse. How worse.... is anyone's guess!
